The Easiest Healthy Thanksgiving Recipe: Cajun Turkey With Dirty-Rice Stuffing

Thanksgiving is just a few days away, and if you’re one of those people who don’t plan their feast weeks ahead, this might be your lucky day. We’ve got the perfect, easy-to-make and easy-to-follow recipe for a holiday family get-together that’s also healthy and purely delicious! This Cajun turkey with Dirty-Rice stuffing will prove to be a perfectly exquisite dish for every Thanksgiving table, while also being incredibly simple.

The amounts of ingredients in this recipe are enough for 12 servings.

Ingredients

To make this dish, you’ll need:

  • 1 fresh or frozen turkey, thawed
  • 2 tablespoons of no-salt-added Cajun seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • Dirty-Rice stuffing
  • parsley and rosemary springs (if you wish)

Preparation

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees, and remove and discard all giblets and the neck from the turkey before rinsing it with cold water. Pat the turkey dry and trim the excess fat off.

Loosen the skin from the breast and drumsticks (starting from the neck cavity) by inserting your fingers, and gently pushing them between the skin and the meat.

Rub the Cajun seasoning and salt under the loosened skin, and sprinkle it in the body cavity. Tie the ends of both legs with a cord, and lift the wings up and over back while tucking them under the turkey.

Get a broiler pan, cover it with cooking spray, and place the turkey on it.

If you prefer, you can also use a rack set in a shallow roasting pan. Insert the meat thermometer into the meaty part of the thigh, but make sure that it doesn’t touch the bone. Bake the turkey at 350 degrees for 2 ½ hours or until the thermometer registers 180 degrees. Remove the turkey from the oven, cover it loosely with foil, and let it stand for 10 minutes before you carve it and discard the skin.

Serve the meat with Dirty-Rice stuffing, and garnish the dish with parsley and rosemary springs if you desire.
