Relaxation Done Right

January 22, 2015

Nowadays, life tends to get fast and hectic in a blink of an eye, making us constantly stressed and anxious about something menial. Amidst all the chaos, we forget how important relaxing and venting the stress out actually are.

That’s why today we wanted to share a couple of sure-fire methods that will take you from fuming with anger to a calm state of mind in 20 minutes or less.

Proven By Science

According to psychologist Robbie Maller Hartman, PhD, who is also a health and wellness coach in Chicago, a relaxation exercise a day keeps the stress away.

Says Hartman: “Research suggests that daily meditation may alter the brain’s neural pathways, making you more resilient to stress.” It can’t get simpler than this – instead of relieving yourself of stress, why not prevent it?

For example, try simply sitting straight up with your feet on the floor, close your eyes, and repeat to yourself a mantra of your choice. “I love myself” or “I am at peace” work best in most cases, but you can choose your own sentence that you will concentrate on every day for 15 minutes.

Taking It Easy

Aside from everyday exercises, you should also focus on the smallest of things. As psychologist Judith Tutin, PhD says: “Take 5 minutes and focus on only one behavior with awareness.”

“Notice how the air feels on your face when you’re walking and how your feet feel hitting the ground. Enjoy the texture and taste of each bite of food.” Spending time in the moment and focusing on your basic senses will most certainly make you feel less tense.

The last step toward stress-prevention would be socializing. Talking to your friends and family about what’s bothering you, preferably face to face, will relieve you of some part of your stress.

Sharing is caring, and in this case, once you share your thoughts on stress, a big part of it will permanently disappear.
