Trying to lose weight can sometimes mean giving up those treats and snacks that you love so much. More often than not, it is the lure of these forbidden foods that causes a person to break their diet.

But all a person has to do is figure out what it is that their bodies can handle and what that person has to do to minimalize that treats impact on the body. These dark chocolate brownies are an amazing way to find a healthy treat that won’t have too much of an impact on your body image.

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup whole grain pastry flour*
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened natural cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup plain low-fat yogurt
  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and coat an appropriate size pan in cooking spray. Melt the chocolate and butter in a double boiler or heatproof bowl set over a pot of barely simmering water, stirring occasionally.

Whisk the flower, salt, cocoa and baking soda into a medium size bowl. In a separate, larger bowl you should whisk the eggs and sugar until it is smooth.

Next, add and whish the yogurt, oil and vanilla until combined. Add the chocolate-butter mixture and whisk until blended. Add the flour mixture and mix until just moistened.

Transfer the mixture to the prepared pan and sprinkle with nuts if using. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until a wooden toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Wait just a little while longer, and voila! You are enjoying your wonderful, heart-healthy dark chocolate brownies.
