Since most of us live a busy life, it’s not uncommon for us to skip a meal every now and then. But even though some people have all the time in the world to cook and eat, they still believe that holding out on a meal is equal to skipping calories.

However, a study published in The Journal of Nutritional Biochemisty proves once and for all that skipping meals isn’t only bad for weight loss, but can also be extremely unhealthy.

The study comes from Ohio State University in Columbus, where a team of researchers observed mice who ate their food slowly throughout the day and mice who consumed their daily needs in one single meal.

The final results showed that the meal-skipping group had more fat in their abdomens and also developed insulin resistance in their livers, which is a sign of prediabetes.

Senior author Martha Belury states:

“You definitely don’t want to skip meals to save calories, because it sets your body up for larger fluctuations in insulin and glucose and could be setting you up for more fat gain instead of fat loss.”

So, the next time you’re feeling too lazy to cook a nutritious dinner or when you think you don’t have enough time for breakfast, just ask yourself if you really want to have diabetes or not.

    So what about the findings showing intermittent fasting having a positive effect? This study seems to point in the other direction.
