When you are dieting, junk food can be your worst enemy. Many people struggle with giving up junk food and some actually crave it. Don’t let those sweet and salty foods ruin your weight loss goals and your diet.

Use one of these 7 ways to avoid eating junk food to help you stay on track with your diet and shed those extra pounds.

1. Clean Out The Pantry

If you have a junk food craving and open up your pantry to find your favorite chips or cookies, chances are you are going to eat them. If you want to avoid such a scenario, you need to remove the temptations from your refrigerator, cupboards and pantry.

Fill these spaces with healthy food options such as vegetables and yogurt. Not only will healthy foods make you feel satisfied longer, they also help reduce junk food cravings and will help you lose weight.

2. Turn Off The Commercials

There’s a reason that junk food companies pay big bucks to show their foods on television commercials.

How many times have you seen a commercial for a junk food item and went to get something similar out of your pantry or even made a special trip to the store to by that same item?

Don’t let these commercials win the battle of the bulge. If you are watching television and know you have a weakness for commercials, turn off the TV until the commercials are over.

3. Avoid The Junk Food Aisle

If you walk down an aisle full of tempting and fatty foods, the chances are, you are going to buy something. The best way to save your money and some calories is to avoid this aisle at all costs.

Don’t let yourself make up excuses to walk down it and ask yourself if the food items you are going to buy have any nutritional value or are simply empty calories.

4. Opt For Healthy, Not Convenient


Most people lead busy lives and don’t always have the time to find the healthiest food options available in stores or restaurants.

Since junk food is usually easy to eat on the go, many people choose these foods over healthier ones.

If you don’t have time to pack a healthy lunch in the morning before work or school, take the time to do it the night before.

You can even make healthy frozen lunches weeks in advance and just grab them when you walk out the door.

Keep bags or air-tight bowls of veggies and fruits in your fridge to grab when you are in a hurry.

5. Eat Out Less

Some restaurants may advertise health options, but these foods can still be high in fat and calories and low in nutrients. If you must eat out, choose a salad or even soup and choose grilled foods over fried ones.

Be careful of condiments. Adding a cream-based salad dressing to your salad or mayonnaise to a grilled chicken sandwich can quickly turn your healthy choice into a fatty food option.

Unhealthy restaurant foods can be tempting so it is best to avoid them as much as possible.

6. Meal Plan

Make a weekly meal plan that is full of healthy food options. Do not add any junk food items to this list.

Use the list to plan out your menu each day and create your grocery shopping.

When you already know what foods you will be eating you are less likely to indulge in the ones that are bad for you.

This will also give you time to prepare food ahead of time so you are less likely to grab junk food when you are in a hurry or feeding frenzy.

7. Diet Goals

Don’t limit yourself to “diet foods.”

When you categorize foods into this category you are less likely to enjoy them and more likely to cheat and eat junk food.

Eat foods you like but try to opt for healthy options as much as possible. Set diet goals and reward yourself when you reach them.

Don’t stress out about the foods you eat and if you do cheat, don’t beat yourself up over it.

Let the foods you eat help you reach your diet goals and eventually you will find yourself making lifestyle changes that will keep you healthy all of your life.
