How To Eat What You Love And Still Lose Weight

July 2, 2013

For many people, the hardest part of dieting is giving up the foods they love. Denying yourself of your favorite foods only makes you more likely to give up and binge eat. Luckily, there are ways to enjoy your favorite foods without gaining weight.

Portion Control

If you want to enjoy your favorite food items and not gain any weight, you need to learn portion control.

By making your portions smaller you are reducing the amount of calories, fat and overall food that enters you body.

Eventually you will find they you do not need large amounts of food to be full and eating smaller portions will become easier and part of your daily lifestyle.

The main reason many people are overweight is not because of the types of good they eat, but how large their portions are.

Subtle Substitutes

Try making small changes to your favorite foods to make them healthier and less likely to add inches to your waist.

Try fat-free cheese and dressings on your salads, poached or scrambled eggs instead of fried eggs and skim milk instead of whole milk.

These small changes still allow you to enjoy the foods you love without causing you to gain any extra weight.

Reduce Calories

Counting calories gives you the freedom to eat whatever you want as long as it is in moderation.

By counting calories you know exactly how much food you are eating and are more aware of your food choices.

Even though you can eat small amounts of any food, it is not a good idea to go overboard and only fill your plates with junk or foods that have no nutritional value.

When counting calories, you should make sure that most of your calories come from good foods such as whole grains, proteins, dairy and fruits and vegetables.

Set a limit for the amount of calories you will allow yourself each day.

Once you are near your limit with good calories, it is okay to use some of your remaining calories on guilty pleasures.

As long as you are burning as much or more calories than you are taking in, you will not gain weight.

This means you can pretty much eat anything you want as long as you workout enough to burn it off.

That doesn’t mean you should pig out on junk food and forget about a healthy diet. It simply means that if you decide to eat a piece of cake for dessert, you don’t have to feel guilty, you can just exercise a little longer than normal to burn it off.

If there are certain foods that you just can’t live without, go ahead and eat them while dieting. Remember they are only harmful if you eat too much of them and do not workout to burn the extra calories you have eaten.

Why set yourself up for diet failure by limiting yourself to the types of foods you can eat.

Limit the amount of food you eat and make healthy substitutions when possible and you will still lose weight and stay healthy.
