Choosing The Right Drink For Your Workout Day

December 16, 2014

Staying hydrated is one of the most important factors of working out. And even though we all know that, some of us are still confused as to what exactly should we drink while we exercise.

From water to sports drinks, there is a plethora of choices, which only makes things more difficult. But there is a simple way of making the right choice, so read on to find out how.

It All Comes Down To Taste

Once again, keeping your body hydrated is your main goal, so with that in mind, try going for whatever makes you drink more.

Whether it’s plain old H2O, some flavored variation, or an energy drink, let your taste choose for you.

If you like it more, you will drink it more, and therefore you will hydrate your body with greater efficiency.

One Drink To Rule Them All

Whatever your final choice may be, we have to single out one drink from the bunch. When it comes to sports drinks, it has been proven that they provide more benefits than any other fluid.

The director of sport nutrition for Penn State University Park, Kristine Clark, Ph. says: “The carbohydrates found in sweetened sports drinks provide energy to help delay fatigue. Lab tests have shown that 6% carbohydrate is the optimal percentage of carbs for speeding fluid and energy back into the body.”

According to the American College of Sports Medicine, the recommended intake is about 17 ounces, two hours before exercising starts. This is because you body needs to prepare and excrete any excess water. Contrary to regular water, sport drinks are able to do this momentarily, and that’s why they’re better.
