A weight loss calculator that actually works

Eat less and move more is a nice equation for those who are looking to lose weight, but sometimes it is just not that simple. Especially when you want to calculate exactly how much calories you should be eating on a daily basis in order to lose a certain amount of weight.

This is where weight loss calculators come in! However, most weight loss calculators don’t do the job properly.

Let’s see why.

Metabolism Can Adapt

According to studies conducted by the NIDDK (National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases) and the NIH (National Institutes of Health), you will need to know your weight loss calculator factor that will tell you exactly how your metabolism works and thus help you predict how long it’ll take you to reach a particular weight loss goal.

Most people have this question after several months of trying to lose weight:

“I’m tracking my caloric intake thoroughly, but I’m still not losing as much weight as I should. Why isn’t my diet working?”

The problem is that basic math doesn’t work here.

You can reduce your intake by 500 calories a day and that should technically lead to about 1 pound of fat loss a week (500 calories a day x 7 days = 3500 calories a week = 1 pound), but people often forget that the metabolism is adaptive.

As you eat less, your metabolism slows down.

This is where Precision Nutrition’s Weight Loss Calculator comes in. Folks over at Precision Nutrition say that their weight loss calculator “takes into account the adaptive nature of metabolism and gives more accurate information on how hard you’ll have to work (and how long it may take) to reach your goals.”

As we already mentioned, your metabolism is unique and is able to adapt, which is why your expectations about the exact weight loss and body change you are about to experience must be in accordance to how your particular body works.

We don’t all have the metabolism of an 18-year-old athlete, unfortunately.
